My View of Llanview: October 30 Edition

( — Halloween disappointments.

How depressing is it that Erika Slezak’s role on this show continues to decline. I mean it was bad enough when Viki did nothing more than dispense advice to her nitwitted children. But now, her only function seems to be propping Rex and handing out Halloween candy to unseen children. I suppose I should be glad that “One Life to Live” is even acknowledging Halloween this year, but I’m not to excited about it.

Other than the parlor at Llanfair being decked out for All Hallow’s Eve, you wouldn’t think anyone else in Llanview was even celebrating the holiday this year. Aside from the conspicuous plastic pumpkin that kept my attention during those boring Natalie and Marty scenes and Hope’s little pumpkin costume (don’t even get me started on Starr, James, and Hannah), Halloween this year is really a bust in Llanview.

I realize that with Starr and Hope getting kidnapped for the millionth time and several people getting trapped in the rubble after Eli set off a bomb at the warehouse, most of Llanview wasn’t in the holiday mood. However, that is still no excuse. The writers could have woven a nice masquerade ball in with this storyline. Maybe Dorian could have had a party and Eli could have come dressed as something really scary and held everyone hostage before blowing up the Palace or the Community Center or some other building. Anything where everyone was dressed up in costumes and saying “Trick-or-Treat.” I never get tired of those sort of Halloween celebrations. It is one of my favorite holidays outside of Christmas.

Hopefully, “OLTL” will get its act back together again and celebrate Thanksgiving in style. I know Ron Carlivati can write a classic holiday episode. Take the 2008 Thanksgiving episode for example, where nearly all of Llanview ended up together at the diner. Now that was a heart-warming episode, and the way the show should write all of their holiday-themed shows. But what do I know?

Switching gears, since I’m a little bored and need something to finish out this edition of the column, here are a few odds and ends from the Twitter files. “OLTL” Music Producer Paul Glass tweeted on October 8th that it was a “C R A Z Y week at the studio! Hope everyone that’s in NYC for the fan weekend has an amazing time!” Kristen Alderson (Starr) writes “Okay, now i’m dying to be on ‘Dancing with the Stars’……how’re we gonna make this happen?? LOL” And on October 14th she commented that “the makeup artist on our show said2me(after seeing the scenes i taped 2day)’No wonder u have nightmares’lol WOW I watched today’s ‘One Life To Live!’ SO INTENSE!! I LOVED filming that car stunt,so fun! felt like a movie, hope u liked it too!” Alderson also posted this promotional picture she got from ABC from her “What If…” webisode with “All My Children’s” Debbi Morgan (Angie) and Darnell Williams (Jesse). And here is one featuring “OLTL’s” John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex) and “General Hospital’s” Kristen Storms (Maxie).

Brittany Underwood (Langston) made this tweet with links to pictures of she and her co-stars Alderson and Nic Robuck (James) clowning around in her dressing on October as they were waiting to tape their scenes. She also says she taped more scenes the week of October 25th, and that she recently discovered that someone was pretending to be her on Facebook and was calling people claiming to be her. And Hillary B. Smith tweeted on September 27th that “I am loving my scenes with Jessice (Leccia) and Woodsie (Robert S. Woods). Jessica has been nothing but light and laughter for me on the set.”

Terrell Tilford (Greg) tweets that “Sean Ringgold is in the house…stopping by the crib to send his “big brother” off to LA! What a guy! ‘OLTL’ did the right thing by him!” And Kim Zimmer (Echo) tweets that “TY all so much for your enthusiasm. Job well done & I so appreciate it.Now let’s leave it up to the casting people DWTS from here.LY all!Kim”

Anyway, moving on, congratulations to “C.L.,” who correctly identified last time’s mystery “OLTL” guest star as Soap Opera Digest editor Lauren Flynn.

In case you missed the clues, here they are: This daytime magazine editor appeared as an extra in the fall of 2007 when Timbaland rocked the stage at Capricorn.

Now it’s time to play another round of “Llanview, Who Am I?,” a new feature where you have to use the clues to figure out the identity of some mystery celebrity guest stars from “OLTL’s” past. See if you can figure it out. Good luck!!!

This former New Orleans television television news anchor popped up in Llanview in early 2009 in a bit part that put her in scenes with David Vickers.

So who is this mystery celebrity from the past? I’ll have the answers in the November 15th edition of My View of Llanview. Extra credit if you can tell me the name of the TV station the reporter was employed at the time she taped her “OLTL” scenes. And don’t forget to check out my Twitter page for all the latest “OLTL” news and information at SON.

Now, before I wrap up this column, I’m going to look into my crystal ball and give you a quick sneak peek at a few things coming up a few weeks down the road. These are for the week of November 15th. One woman makes an idiot out of herself. Someone makes a phone call and pretends to be someone they’re not. A woman’s career is threatened. A mother puts the moves on a ladies man. One man plans to watch as an adversary is sentenced to prison. A married woman gets into an argument with another regarding her husband. One young man demands to know who the hell is father really is. And two old flames share a nice moment with someone.

Well that’s concludes yet another edition of the column. Hope you enjoy reading my seemingly endless rantings. It was nice to have a few moments to set down and rest before hitting the campaign trail yet again. Stay well and safe, and I’ll have more in the next column. And until next time remember, we only have “One Life to Live”…
