Tuesday, July 21, 2009 3:26 AM ET | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- Is "Guiding Light" hunk Daniel Cosgrove headed to "One Life to Live" as the next Joey Buchanan? The answer is yes, according to two popular soap news magazines. Both Soap Opera Weekly and Soap Opera Digest have gone on record as stating that Cosgrove and "OLTL" are thisclose to finalizing a deal to bring him to Llanview as Viki and Clint's youngest son Joey, which SON recently reported on. The character was last portrayed by "Castle" star Nathan Fillion during "One Life's" 10,000th episode celebration in 2007 (and originally from 1994-97). Should Cosgrove step into the role, he would become the seventh actor to tackle the long-time character. Other actors in the role have included Ryan Morris (1982-83), John Paul Learn (1983-90), Chris McKenna (1990-93), Don Jeffcoat (1997-2001), and Bruce Michael Hall (2003 and again in 2004). If "One Life" manages to...
Tuesday, July 21, 2009 12:28 AM ET | By Scotty Gore (SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- "One Life to Live's" new Carlotta Vega breaks her silence and speaks publicly for the first time since replacing Patricia Mauceri in the suddenly controversial supporting role, sitting down with TV Guide's Michael Logan for an exclusive interview concerning the daytime drama's upcoming gay storyline. Less than one month after Patricia Mauceri was unceremoniously fired from "One Life" after portraying Carlotta Vega since 1995, new details have emerged involving the actress's apparent refusal to play out her scenes as scripted. According to Logan, Mauceri "refused to perform a story twist in which her character mistakenly thinks her son Cristian (David Fumero) is gay and reacts in a positive and supportive manner." Deciding it would be 'out-of-character' for Carlotta, a rather devout Catholic mother, to act in such a manner, Mauceri rewrote her character's scenes as she thought...

Monday, July 20, 2009 9:55 PM ET | By Scotty Gore(SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- Frank McCourt, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the best-selling memoir Angela's Ashes, passes away at age 78, following complications associated with melanoma. Editor's note: While we here at SON don't normally report on news outside of the soap world, in this case we decided to make an exception, given Frank McCourt's ties to the daytime drama "One Life to Live." The eldest-born of seven children to poor Irish immigrants, Frank McCourt was born in near poverty in Brooklyn, New York on August 19, 1930. With the United States firmly entrenched in the Great Depression, work proved difficult to come by for his parents, Malachy and Angela McCourt. Hoping to improve the family's fortunes, the family packed up and returned to his mother's hometown of Limerick in her native Ireland when McCourt was only three years old. However, shortly after...

Monday, July 20, 2009 5:42 PM EDT
Monday, July 20, 2009 3:42 PM PT | By Errol Lewis (SoapOperaNetwork.com) -- Drew Cheetwood, 26, portrays Milo Giambetti on ABC's "General Hospital," but did you know that he is also the personal trainer for Robert Guza, Jr., the soaps head writer, and much of the cast and crew of the soap? Cheetwood is the younger brother of Derk Cheetwood (Max Giambetti, "General Hospital") and is cousins with Tyler Christopher (Nikolas Cassadine, "General Hospital"), but he didn't get the job as Milo because of them. He got it because the show was interested in filling a role as one of Sonny Corinthos' (Maurice Benard) bodyguards. Since he's always on set helping the talent and crew get in shape, it was only a natural choice to seek Drew out for the role. But which career does he prefer? "Acting for sure. I moved out to LA to be an actor." While...
